Surgery Update #2  -  @ 20:30:31
Well, we ended up back in the hospital again. On Monday the 14th, Vinny was acting really lethargic and had a low grade fever. We took him to NCMC in Greeley and we ended up having to have an ambulance take Vinny down to Children's in Denver.

After a couple of days in the Ped Intensive Care Unit, they finally figured out the broviac catheter that we got in NJ ended up getting infected. The infection was actually a pretty easy one to kill but then we found out he also had a yeast (fungus) infection in his blood from the broviac.

Turns out, the antibiotic we were giving him for the original abscess was suppressing his bone marrow and it killed off good bacteria and left him very susceptible to both infections he ended up getting. the good news out of the whole ordeal was that brain imaging showed that the abscess he got from the surgery was pretty much gone and he didn't need to take oral antibiotics through mid jan.

So in the end, he spent almost three miserable weeks in the hospital on 2 antibiotics and 2 anti-fungal meds. It was rough, to say the least, but we made it...

So we finally got home again on Saturday and he is doing much better. He is smiling and starting to eat again. It will still be a few weeks before we can really hope for him to really recover, but at least now he doesn't have any lines in him and he is not on any meds.

So now we just wait until Jan to see if any progress shows up on MRI in Philly/NJ. All we can do is try and have some hope that that the therapy will eventually be worth it....we shall see.

Again, my thanks to everyone and I hope everyone ends up with a happy holiday good things to come next year....

Brian, Kara, Kayla and Vinny
